This week of we are surrounded by so many sales –Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday but recently there is a new movement starting – GivingTuesday. I first read about “GivingTuesday” in an article about the “unselfie.” GivingTuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.Just as retail stores participate in Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday shopping season GivingTuesday is a way for non-profit organizations to come together to kick off the holiday giving season.

In 2012, GivingTuesday had more than 2,500 recognized partners from all 50 states, this year they have over 8,000 organizations participating. Though you cannot donate through GivingTuesday’s website, on 11/27/12 over 10 million dollars were donated to various organizations and over 50 million people worldwide spread the word about GivingTuesday resulting in a huge trending on Twitter.

This year the GivingTuesday is asking you to share your unselfie. They are asking you to take a “selfie” with a caption or have a card with you in the picture explaining how or why you are giving this year. Post it on Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter and use the hashtags #UNselfie and #givingtuesday.

As a corporate office, Red Roof Inn gives our time and financial support to the Mid Ohio Food Bank, Flying Horse Farms, and Pelotonia. We all have special causes we hold close to our hearts or inspirations to give, here are some of Red Roof Inn’s corporate employees UNselfie’s
