Red Roof 40 & Fabulous – Brand Conference

This past week, I attended my first Red Roof Inn Brand Conference in Orlando, Florida. This brand conference was special because Red Roof was celebrating our 40th anniversary. This first night we celebrated like it was 1970. Everyone came out in their grooviest outfits and danced the night away with our live band. I spent most of the night dancing and meeting a lot of Red Roof employees, general managers, and franchises. The toughest part was remembering who everyone was without their 70’s digs on.

On Tuesday, we started out the conference with some informational skits with a lot of laughs too. Andrew Alexander, Red Roof Inn’s President, started out the morning schooling Chris Matthews on Hardball. He talked a lot about “what’s up” with Red Roof and how we are up in the economy lodging market. Next on was Rob Wallace staring as Hawkeye in “MASH”. Rob or Hawkeye talked about all the great things Red Roof is offering their franchises and about the great Next Gen rooms available at Red Roof. Wrapping up the morning, Mariana MacDonald graced the stage as the host of “Saturday Night Live.” Marina’s sales and marketing team showed the audience in skits like Celebrity Jeopardy, Wayne’s World, and Weekend Update what they have been working on the past year.

In the afternoon, there were breakout sessions “So You Think You Can Drive Revenue,” “The View,” “The Product is Right,” and “Cash Cab.” Since I was in one of the breakout sessions I was unable to see all of them. However I did peak my head in during rehearsals. They all looked like so much fun and a great way to get information across. I heard a lot of laughs coming from all of the breakout session rooms.

“Scandal” and “Love Connection” also joined our collection of skits. We had some great guest speakers including Anthony Melchiorri from the show, “Hotel Impossible.” The conference concluded with “The Late Show with Joe and Dan.” Overall I had a great time at the conference and was very tired by the end of it. I never thought my job would include being a reality show contestant, a Spartan cheerleader, or dancing the night away in a 1970’s secretary outfit. I meet a ton of great people and got to know some coworkers a lot better by the end of the conference.

But now it is Monday, and back to work in Columbus. The conference got me very excited for the upcoming year. Red Roof has a lot of exciting new things in the works for 2014 and I am happy to be in the mix of it all! – Sarah
