Snacks for the road

Two of my favorite things are traveling and eating. Picking a favorite place I’ve visited is just as hard as picking the next place I want to go. Food is very similar for me. I like a lot of different food but choosing what I want for dinner is no walk in the park either. Traveling and food go hand in hand and when I am on the road I like to bring some of my favorite snacks to keep me motivated.

I am a big salty and sweet person, what girl isn’t, so having snacks that have both for me is ideal. I enjoy any mix of different snacks. This could be a result of my indecisiveness as well. You can buy all sorts of trail or Chex mix varieties at the store but I like making my own because I put in what I really like. My favorite mix at the moment is pretzel goldfish, walnuts, M&M’s, and crispix cereal. This snack is super easy to make and not messy at all.

Another good alternative is puppy chow. It is more of a sweet treat but still very convenient for travel. It is basically Chex cereal covered in chocolate and then covered in powdered sugar. It can be a little bit of a sugar rush! There have been many variations of this I have seen lately. One of my favorite is peppermint puppy chow. This would be great around the holidays but I love peppermint anytime of the year.

•5 cups Rice Chex cereal
•10 ounces melting white chocolate OR vanilla flavored Almond Bark
•1 cup crushed candy canes
•1 cup powdered sugar

1. Pour 5 cups of Chex Cereal into a large bowl. Melt white chocolate/almond bark according to the package directions. Pour melted chocolate over cereal, stirring and folding until the cereal is completely covered. Fold in the crushed candy canes
2. In a large zipped top bag or covered container, add the powdered sugar. Pour the chocolate covered cereal/candy canes into the large bag or container. Seal the bag or container and shake until all the cereal is coated with the powdered mixture.
3. Discard excess powder. Store at room temperature up to 2 weeks, if it lasts that long!
